Oh, the changing of the seasons… It’s October, it’s Autumn and we are in the middle of it. Summer is over even though a fairly warm Indian Summer weekend is supposed to come. I know that you people in the southern part of the world are in the middle of Spring and maybe longing for Summer to finally arrive… I am happy that Autumn has arrived here. If you have been following my blog, you know by now that I like the changing of the seasons and that it is a recurring theme.
Summer is great, but I need the change every now and then and I can really look forward to days getting shorter and to cosy up indoors with candles and tea and crochet (or knitting). At some point, I am done with summer dresses and flip flops! Bring on warm cardigans!
Another thing I like about the changing seasons is the change in nature happening. Colours are fading into warm hues, leaves are falling off the trees and nature prepares for Winter. I love going for a long walk in the forest at this time of year.
And that’s exactly what we did last weekend. I was amazed by a number of toadstools that we saw! Although, unfortunately, no red and white ones… But a lot of other beautiful ones. I guess the combination of not having really cold weather yet and a lot of moist (read: loads of rain!) make for ideal toadstool conditions.

And what is better after a long walk than coming home to warm coffee and home-baked cake? The cake you see in the picture is a banana bread. I have shared the recipe on my blog earlier. This version is filled with dark chocolate, pecan nuts and dried cranberries.
Free Pattern
As I took the Autumn decoration down from the attic and found the mandala I made last year, I felt the urge to make some matching coasters. It’s not that I don’t have any coasters here in the house, but the ones we had been using here on the coffee table are a very dark colour. And that makes them hard to find on a nearly black table.
I went looking for the colours that I had been using for the mandala (which is from the book Mandalas to Crochet by Haafner Linssen) as I wanted my coasters to match the mandala colour wise.
I started by using a pattern by Inez of Goed.id.handwerk and I made three of them. It’s a lovely little pattern and there are step-by-step photos to help you. You can find her Bunzlau Castle inspired coaster pattern on her blog for free.
My goal was to make six coasters, but not all using the same design. So I started experimenting with other available patterns. However, they were not what I had in mind… I decided to create one myself. And there it was, my first self-designed coaster pattern!
All coasters together… the ones on the left are made using my own Cosy Coaster Crochet Pattern. The ones on the right are made using the pattern by Inez.
