Hygge CAL Update #3: It’s all About Hearts

We are already at week 3 of the beautiful Scheepjes Hygge CAL and I’m really enjoying it! Before I show you this week’s progress, I’d like to talk to you a little bit about CAL’s (which stands for Crochet-A-Long)…

You’ll find an overload of CAL’s and KAL’s (the knitting version) when you browse the Internet. This particular CAL is actually the first one that I am following in real-time. I’ve made two CAL patterns earlier: one was the As-we-go Stripey Blanket by Not Your Average Crochet. This blanket pattern was actually the basis for the first big Dutch CAL (hosted by Tertia and Jolanda). I didn’t join in on the CAL, though I made the blanket at my own pace. It’s the blanket that you see in this picture.

The second CAL that I started is also by Scheepjes. It’s the Flight of Fancy Shawl designed by Annelies Baes. When I saw all the beautiful creations on social media I couldn’t resist and searched my stash for some nice colours. Here’s the confession: it’s lying around in a little basket for almost two years now and it’s still not finished… I’ve made all the flowers and I’ve started to join them, but I’m not there yet. I think that a number of ends to weave in is holding me back… I will finish it! Sometime…

Now, back to the lovely Hygge CAL! I’m determined to keep up with the weekly pattern releases and the fact that I am writing an update for all of you here on the blog every week helps a lot! But hey, it’s only week 3 of 14… 🙂

Guess what? I have discovered a mistake in last week’s work! Right at the beginning (on the right side of the work), I’ve made a failure. Compare it to the left side and you’ll see what I mean. Now, here’s the dilemma: is it obvious enough and should I resolve it or leave it as it is? Being the perfectionist that I am, I want to make it right… I am going to leave it like it is for a while now and get back to it at the end I guess.

So, this week is all about hearts! And these are the sweet candy colours that I will be using according to my colour scheme! Yum!

I prepared the base for this week’s stitching while watching TV in the evening, but I like to do the stitching using daylight. So that had to wait until the weekend.

Like last week, we began by adding the separator. Having one already as an example, this one was a lot easier as you can now align the tops of the waves.

Then on with the hearts… Oh, those hearts… I really love them! I was in doubt about the colour order that I would use here (dark on the outside or dark on the inside). I’m very happy with this one!

There’s a cute little line of cross stitches above and beneath the hearts…

And this is what it looks like when part three is completed! I’m really pleased with how the colours work together. And even though orange is not my first colour of choice, it absolutely lifts the colour scheme here! Love it!

So, I’m off to one of my other ‘works in progress’ for now… The next part will be released on Wednesday! I’m ready for it!

You’ll find all the details on this CAL in my first update!
