Meet #shoppersue! Sue was the project of the @dasm

Meet #shoppersue! Sue was the project of the @dasmachichnachts May subscription box and features the beautiful #bonvoyagefabric by @riflepaperco for @cottonandsteel. Also in the box: a piece of matching webbing custom made for this box by @merchantandmills!

The shopper is a quick make and I managed to finish it just in time before we left to Frankfurt for my shoulder surgery.

I was able to pop Amsterdam on the front of the bag 😉. Unfortunately, not in the centre, but you can’t have it all, right?

I’ve added a few things to make my Sue a Sue Deluxe: pockets on the inside (to protect my phone) and a magnetic closure. The plan was to add a key chain holder as well, but guess what I found this morning (swipe to last photo)… the key chain holder 😂! In my urge to finish the bag, I forgot to sew it in. I may or may not try to resolve that later (when both hands are functioning again).

The visible bit of lining on the top was an idea by @sewingtini that I really liked and wanted to include. For the bottom I used a piece of #dryoilskin from my stash.

Sue is a nicely sized shopper, rather big actually! I’m very happy with it!

Hi everyone!

If you’re wondering where I’ve been since posting holiday photos, then here’s the explanation. About a week ago, I had surgery on my shoulder. It was a planned surgery to repair a (partly) torn tendon.

I’ve had shoulder surgery before, therefore I knew that it was going to be painful and rehabilitation is long and I’ve been putting it off for as long as possible… For too long actually which, of course, made things worse and more complicated. It’s been a tough, emotional and painful week and I’m grateful for proper medication! Fortunately, the pain is getting less now and the fog in my head is slowly clearing.

I’m stuck to this harness now for the next weeks. During that time, only my physical therapist and a motorised chair are allowed to keep my shoulder moving. After that I can hopefully, slowly, start to train my shoulder again.

Since leaving the hospital I’m taken very good care of by my husband and I have the best excuse to wear jogging pants all the time 😀!

There’ll obviously be no #knitting, #crochet, #quilting or #sewing for a while. I’ve even sent the sewing machine off for a wellness treatment 😉! No temptation there! I do have a few finished things though that I haven’t shared with you yet (the striped knitted top is one of them). I’ll most likely share some of those in the coming weeks then…

In case you’re wondering if there’s any #knitt

In case you’re wondering if there’s any #knitting going on while on holiday then I can confirm that there is 😀!

Though it’s not much. Much less than I thought there would be anyway. Which means that, of course, I took too much yarn and works-in-progress with me.

I only knitted on my #dingleydelltee as it’s a summer tee and I want it to be finished so that I can wear it! One more stripe to go and the ribbings to go!

Oh, and isn’t this closet the perfect backdrop for my tee? It’s a closet in our current cottage 😉 and it’s a perfect match with the colours of the yarn!

Before leaving Cornwall a few days ago, we went up

Before leaving Cornwall a few days ago, we went up to Zennor for a short walk at Zennor Head.

We initially planned to walk the #southwestcoastpath from St Ives to Zennor, but we decided to do the shortcut! And that was okay. We had lovely views anyway! The different colours are so beautiful!

We started with a nice lunch at @tinnersarmszennor before our little walk and treated ourselves to a cream tea at @moomaidofzennor afterwards.

It’s me, Bono! Just popping in to say hi 😀! My people took me with them on their trip to England and boy it’s exhausting! We’re doing lots of walks and sightseeing and my nose is working overtime. So many new and interesting smells here! I miss my daytime naps, so I catch up on that as soon as we get back to our cottage. I will fall asleep immediately!

We started our holiday in a woodland area and I’m pretty sure it was haunted 👻! Didn’t really like going for a walk there. I like the coastal area where we went then. The beach is much more fun! I can run on the beach.

And there are lots of other dogs there too. I’m not very much interested in the dogs though, but their owners might have treats with them (which mine apparently never have). I’m very good at begging, I’ve got a special face for that. I do get a lot of attention here. The people tell me I’m cute, ask what breed I am (unique, of course) and I get cuddles. And a treat sometimes, that’s the most important thing!

In the meantime we moved on to the countryside where I can walk/run/roll on fields and meadows. That’s fun too!

Part two of our visit to @nttrengwainton garden! There was more to see than just rhododendrons 😉.

I have a weak spot for walled gardens and kitchen gardens. I found both at Trengwainton. And an orchard too!

Bono found a complicated way to drink (because why would you use the water bowl provided?).

And we found some cute birds 🙂. I’m not quite sure what kind they are, but I think they’re the ones that can’t fly. Doesn’t make them less cute though!

Can you visit England without visiting a garden? I think you can’t 🙂!

It’s a bit trickier this time to find a garden, because not all of them allow dogs. But @nttrengwainton does, as long as they’re on a lead. There was even a cookie jar outside of the bookshop! That was highly appreciated by Bono 😉!

Generally, we experience the UK as a very dog-friendly country!

Back to the garden… it was lovely! 🥰 A lot of the (enormous) Rhododendrons were still covered in flowers. The colours are lovely and so was the smell of flowers!

The Cornish coast is dotted with the remains of old mines. Up until roughly 1900 these mines produced copper, tin and arsenic (a by-product of tin). Rapidly falling prices for copper and tin caused the mines to close down.

The miners would work below the sea bed at a depth of 500m. Levant Mine (photos 3, 4 and 5) actually reached out for 2.5km under the sea, at a depth of 640m. Steam engines were used to pump water out of the mines. Imagine the working conditions at that time! There were no lifts to take the miners down the shafts, they would climb down ladders and a candle (attached to the helmet with clay) provided a little light. One wrong step and you’d fall down. A little draft and your light would be gone.

Men and boys (as soon as they were big enough) would be working underground. Woman and girls would work on the surface. A mine could have several hundred employees at high times.

The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape achieved UNESCO World Heritage Status. A lot of information can be found on the @nationaltrust website.

Oh, and did you watch Poldark? Then you might recognise Botallack (photos 1 and 2) as the Poldark family mine called Wheel Leisure in the series.
